Theme: "Religious Ethics in Times of Artificial Intelligence"

Welcome to The 6th ICIMS 2026

International Conference on Islamic and Muhammadiyah Studies (ICIMS) 2026. This conference is part of the conference program entitled International Summit on Science Technology and Humanity (ISETH) 2025 organized by the University of Muhammadiyah Surakarta. This conference will be held offline and online from Surakarta, Indonesia, on February 10-11, 2026.

The theme of this International Conference is "Religious Ethics in Times of Artificial Intelligence". This theme highlights how the principles of religious ethics are implemented, interpreted, and applied in the midst of the rapid development of AI technology. The University of Muhammadiyah Surakarta through the Faculty of Islamic Religion held the International Conference on Islamic and Muhammadiyah Studies (ICIMS) 2026 as a scientific forum to discuss, analyze, and explore religious ethical issues related to the development of AI. This conference is expected to be a forum for knowledge exchange, dissemination of research results, and strengthening international academic collaboration.

Main Focus and Scope

Education

This subtheme focuses on development and innovation in the world of education, both at the formal and informal levels. The discussion included various educational approaches, methodologies, and strategies that are relevant to the global context and the challenges of the times. Discussions can include the integration of technology in education, inclusive education, and the importance of developing 21st century character and skills in shaping a competent and civilized generation.

Economics

This subtheme discusses relevant issues of Islamic economics both at the local and global levels, including the digital economy, the sustainability of the Islamic economy, and challenges in the ever-evolving global economic system. Analysis of economic policies, as well as the role of economics in achieving social welfare and sustainable development are part of the discussion in this subtheme.

Law

The legal subtheme examines the development and application of Islamic law in various fields, both national and international law. The main focus is on fair and transparent law enforcement, protection of human rights, as well as challenges in the justice system. Contemporary legal issues such as digital rights, environmental law, and international law are an important part of the discussion to understand the dynamics of law in the global world. This legal subtheme also includes fatwas and its institutions, fiqh muamalat contracts, family law protection issues and the like.

Qur'anic Studies and Tafsir

This subtheme discusses an in-depth study of the Qur'an and its interpretation, including the interpretation of sacred texts in various historical and social contexts. The main focus is on the understanding of revelation in the modern era, as well as the contribution of interpretation in shaping the religious and ethical understanding of Muslims. Research on the relevance of the teachings of the Qur'an to the development of the times is also an important part of this subtheme.

Muhammadiyah Studies and Contemporary Issues

This subtheme investigates the thought and movement of Muhammadiyah in the historical context and its contribution in various fields, such as education, social, and religion. The discussion also included how Muhammadiyah responds to contemporary issues such as pluralism, democracy, and the challenges of globalization. This discussion aims to explore the role of Muhammadiyah in building a progressive society in accordance with Islamic values.
